5 YEARS WE4ALL AND OUR NEWS FOR THE PERIOD MARCH – JUNE 2023

This Planet is our homeOur News5 YEARS WE4ALL AND OUR NEWS FOR THE PERIOD MARCH – JUNE 2023

Approaching the landmark of 5 years since the deadly fires in Mati in Attica, which was the catalyst for the creation of we4all, today, together with more than 300 corporate partners and over 6,000 volunteers worldwide, we are in the field every day with the mission ”to help the Earth heal and remind people that this planet is our home”.

With your support, we are raising awareness and mobilizing schools, companies and volunteers to get to affected areas and areas in need to heal the ecosystem and give back to nature what is rightfully its own.

Together with you, every day, we take care of the trees we have planted to achieve a survival rate of more than 90%.

We protect forest areas by removing inappropriate and flammable materials and we clean our coastlines from plastic and other litter.

You have helped us to train more than 120,000 children in Greece, Europe, Africa, USA and Canada through our sustainability awareness education program “Green Future”.

With your help, we have supported over 5,000 vulnerable families in affected areas and vulnerable communities in remote parts of the world.

We bring together people with common interests and the shared vision of “seeing humanity coexist as one family, in harmony with nature and other life forms“.

The 2022 – 2023 tree planting season for our country, Greece, is over, but the care of our trees continues every day. The school year is also ended and we are proud that our young friends will be close to nature and enjoy the summer, more aware and with valuable knowledge and love for the environment.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the world, such as Canada, our tree planters continue to be in the field and our trainers, such as Eria in Uganda and Mwalimu in Kenya, participate in the initiative to empower education in rural and urban slums, training children, planting fruit trees with them and tasting together the fruits that so abundantly the trees offer.

On July 3 and 4, global temperatures shattered records highlighting the dangers of ever-increasing greenhouse gas emissions, with the global average temperature reaching 17.2 degrees Celsius, just above the previous record of 16.9 degrees Celsius set in August 2016.

The climate crisis is a reality and there is no time to lose.

Hoping that this summer brings no more disasters and that the color palette of nature remains in shades of green, we call you to take action and we invite you to join our alliance.

1,000,000 trees in Canada and the United States of America.

Our new strategic partnership with Integrity Reforestation Inc. to plant 1,000,000 trees in Canada and the West Coast of the United States is underway and already over 50 tree planters have started and are planting 100,000+ seedlings per day on land that had been cleared for industrial timber production, and we are ensuring a survival rate of over 91% for our seedlings, gradually replacing the logged land with a new thriving forest. Our seeds are collected from the same plantation areas matching the genetics of the trees already growing there.

we4all in Kenya

EERUi (Initiative for Empowering Education in Rural and Urban Slums) Children’s Homes aim to ensure that they meet the needs of children who are unable to live with their families. This means that in addition to providing food, shelter and areas for play and recreation in a caring environment, Children’s Homes also act as a place where children can grow and develop. With our partners we were at the Huruma Children’s Home in Eldoret, Kenya where the children had the opportunity to participate in Sustainable Development Education, which was completed in a hands-on way with the children planting and caring for trees by the children themselves.

All attendees planted a new tree each and promised to take care of them as a means of addressing climate change, but at the same time to taste the fruits that the trees so abundantly provide.

With PPC in tree plantations in Varybombi and Kozani, reforestation in North Evia and environmental education in 10 schools.

The environmental and educational work of We4all is supported by PPC, supporting tree planting, reforestation and education of students on environmental issues, with the active participation of the company’s employees. In the framework of the cooperation between we4all and PPC, actions have already been implemented throughout Greece.

The CEO and Co-Founder of we4all, Mr. Yannis Iliopoulos, said: “Our collaboration with PPC is one of the most important alliances of the year, having a holistic approach that not only promotes the environment and sustainability but also touches on social and educational issues, supporting affected areas and helping us to raise awareness of our planet among thousands of children.”

“In addition to implementing EU and national environmental legislation, PPC joins forces with institutions and organisations, such as we4all, whose work contributes to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Supporting such environmental alliances to halt the loss of biodiversity and involving our employees in actions such as tree planting, helps to tackle climate change and strengthen local communities that have suffered the consequences. For PPC, the strategy of creating shared benefits between Society, the Environment and the Company, which we are implementing, is an important priority,” said Sustainable Development Director Achilleas Ioakeimidis.

With KPMG Greece for the second consecutive year

We are pleased to announce that our partnership with KPMG Greece continues to be strong for the second consecutive year.

Together we have planted over 2,000 trees, and for the last tree planting of this planting season, we have chosen Drafi, Attica, an area affected by the 2022 fires. The area chosen had low vegetation and needed trees to prevent soil erosion.

With PCT (Piraeus Container Terminal) we trained more than 500 students

As part of the “Green Future” Sustainability Education Program, more than 500 primary and secondary school students from schools in PCT’s neighboring municipalities were informed about the climate crisis and its impacts, as well as practical solutions they can implement in their daily lives in order to contribute to the effort to reduce pollutants and environmental pollution.

This initiative is a part of We4all’s collaboration with PCT, as during the 2022-2023 tree planting season over 500 saplings were also planted in fire-affected areas of Greece, creating new green lungs for the country.

When Fashion and Sustainability go hand in hand

With MEGAPLAST in the Moschopodi Forest of Thebes

Our cooperation with Megaplast as a new Ally Member of the we4all Environmental Alliance started dynamically with a clean-up in the Forest of Moschopodiou in Thebes, an action in which volunteers, the Association of Parents and Friends of Disabled People “Agioi Anargyroi” and employees of the Municipality of Thebes participated. Garbage, recyclable and non-recyclable, flammable material and other hazardous materials were carefully collected in order to minimize the risk of starting or spreading a fire.

The Mayor of Thebes, Mr. George Anastasiou, the Deputy Mayor of Sanitation and Environment, Mr. Nikos Kovanis was there to encourage the action, expressing their gratitude and congratulations to the volunteers and the organizers.

Summer is ahead of us and we all ought to protect forests and areas with dense vegetation against the threat of fire either collectively through actions or as an individual attitude and behaviour.
