MATI ANNIVERSARY 2018

Today is the anniversary of the catastrophic fire in Mati Attica, which claimed the lives of 103 of our fellow citizens. And while much has changed since then, such as solidarity with fellow human beings in need, readiness to protect human life, some things have remained the same.

Our nature and our environmental heritage is being destroyed at a dramatic rate every year.
For the third day in a row today, the “protected” forest of Dadia is on fire.

Despite the efforts of the fire brigade, the ecological devastation is immense, with more than 4,400 hectares now reduced to ashes.

Once again we see that once the fire has started, it is now too late to prevent the destruction and unfortunately our failure to protect our forests in advance leaves us at the critical moment to watch the destruction helplessly.

Even so late, let us finally learn a lesson.
